What Is It?

SafeAssign is a tool that allows students to submit assignments and, as a part of the submission process,
checks these submissions for passages taken from other sources. The faculty member can then check the report
generated by SafeAssign to insure the student has included proper citations for the copied portions of the
assignment.

Direct Submit is a SafeAssign tool that allows faculty to check previously submitted student assignments for
passages taken from other sources. The faculty member can then check the report generated by Safe Assign to
insure the student has included proper citations for the copied portions of the assignment.

Both SafeAssign and Direct Submit are tools within the HuskyCT (Blackboard Learning System) software.

How is it Used?

Faculty activitate SafeAssign and Direct Submit on their HuskyCT website. See these instructions for activating Safe Assign

Once a faculty member creates a SafeAssign assignment, students submit their written assignment and SafeAssign automatically check the paper for citations or the lack thereof in copied material. Faculty can choose whether or not to allow students to view the Safe Assign report.

Only the faculty member can submit a digital file of a student's written work using Direct Submit. Direct Submit is not a tool for student use.
